The flatline indices opened higher on cues from Asian and US markets. Sensex opened 405.67 points, or 0.56 per cent at 72,507.40 while Nifty inched 150.80 points, or 0.69 per cent at 21,989.90.
The Indian rupee opened 8 paisa stronger against the US dollar. On Thursday, the rupee opened at 83.08/$ vs Wednesday’s close of 83.16/$.
Asian markets soared to unprecedented highs after the US Federal Reserve maintained the short-term lending rate. Nikkei soared 1.67 per cent to 40,670.52 to hit a fresh all-time high. Kospi gained 2.11 per cent at 2,746.59.
International crude oil prices are up marginally after US crude and gasoline inventory declined. This decline in US inventory comes as the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady, which further diminished the outlook of fuel demand. Brent crude oil is trading 0.65 per cent higher at 86.51 while WTI price gained 0.59 per cent at 81.75.
