P&G, Cincinnati Children’s named among most innovative companies in US
Two Cincinnati companies are receiving national recognition for thinking outside the box.
Procter & Gamble and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center were named in Fortune magazine’s 2024 Most Innovative Companies in America list, released March 23. Out of 200 companies featured, downtown Cincinnati-based P&G ranked No. 22. It received the highest ranking of any company in Ohio. Cincinnati Children’s in Corryville ranked No. 60.
P&G – the manufacturer of various consumer brands, including Pampers, Tide, Bounty, Charmin, Febreze, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Olay and more – is a public company that earned a total revenue of roughly $83.9 billion in 2023. It has 107,000 employees.
P&G rose 22 spots from 2023, when it ranked No. 44.
Cincinnati Children’s rose 16 spots from No. 76 in 2023. The private non-profit boasts a total revenue of approximately $2.9 billion last year and has 17,300 employees.
To determine its findings, Fortune partnered with market research firm Statista to survey 25,000 companies nationwide. Although the list focused on companies that employ at least 500 people in the United States, some smaller companies were also included. The companies were then analyzed by over 8,000 participants based on the following factors:
- Product innovation: The attractiveness, design, usability and uniqueness of a company’s products and services.
- Process innovation: The company’s processes, including sourcing, production, marketing, sales and support.
- Innovation culture: How well a company fosters the “spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity internally and allows implementation of ideas.”
