Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs is accused of animal cruelty. Court records filed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, say that an animal control officer found two dogs locked on Buggs’ property. The dogs were “severely malnourished, emaciated and neglected,” according to court documents. A pit bull dog was “surrounded by feces” and had no access to water or food, the documents state. The second dog, a rottweiler, was “locked in a metal cage in direct sunlight with no access to food or water.”Police have obtained two misdemeanor warrants, according to court documents. In a statement provided by Buggs’ agent to the NFL Network, Buggs denies the allegation and says police have been harassing him. “Isaiah vehemently denies the truthfulness of the allegations and charges asserted against him today. Under no circumstance does Mr. Buggs condone the mistreatment of any animal. The dogs at issue did not belong to him and he was unaware they remained at the property in question,” the statement reads. “Furthermore, we believe the City of Tuscaloosa’s decision to file the charges today is part of a concerted effort by the City of Tuscaloosa and its Police Department to besmirch Mr. Buggs’ name and reputation as part of an on-going subversive campaign to force the close of his local business Kings Hookah Lounge.” Buggs was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He was signed to the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad and played most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Detroit. The Chiefs signed Buggs to the practice squad in January 2024.
